In downtown Knoxville, TN, you'll come across the Henley St Bridge. During the day it may seem nothing more than an ordinary place, but go there at night and you'll see the bridge lit up in purple with pink and blue lights. I visited this spot lit up at night for the first time this past fall and decided to take some pictures. Let's just say things got interesting. I started out with some traditional pictures of the whole bridge lit up in the vibrant purple. I was pleased with the results and have had many customers purchase these photos on a magnet and Christmas ornament. I wanted to try out (for my first time) a technique called slap-zooming. For all my photographers, you may have tried this and know just how fun it is. If you're not a photo junkie, slap-zooming is when you zoom your lens in and/or out while taking the shot. The results are completely different every time, which is one of the appeals (at least in my eyes). I did several slap-zooming pictures of the same bridge, standing in the same spot and produced some fun, unique images. At the end, I decided to get a little more crazy. I started out moving my camera in a circular motion during the exposure to get the first picture below. Then I went wild and moved my camera in pretty much any direction I felt like. Here's some of my favorites below. The Henley St. Bridge is a great place to visit here in Knoxville. Take an evening stroll down Volunteer Landing and end at the bridge when it's lit up for a nice, simple night downtown. Note: All images copyright Melissa Sweeney DBA Melissa Sweeney Photography.
